Battle Creek TN To Martha Emeline ThompsonSabinal, TX 1855-1856 Battle Creek, TN April the 21, 1855 Dear Martha, I received you kind letter a week or two ago and have neglected to anser it. I was glad to hear from you. Father's family is all well. I heard from James Reynolds aobut the same time your letter came to hand. Sister Mary has a fine son about three months old. Martha I wish you had bin here last Christmas. Miss Rose was married and we had more storm parties than ever you heard of. I have said anough on this subject. I have bin going to school at Nashville about four months. I havent ben going any for the last two months. We have a very fine school in Jasper. A lady and gentleman from the North, Fisher is his name, they have about 100 scollars. I supose you have heard Grandmother is dead. Aunt Emeline and Lowery has parted and Aunt Emeline sayes she will never live with him any more. William Grills gave him a good whipping. He came by and saw he was abusing Aunt and he give him what he needed. Martha, Mother sends her love to you all and Mother wants you to wright her word where your Father is. I received your kind letter a long while ago and have never ansered it and I am almost ashamed to atempt to write now. I received a letter from John Reynolds a few days ago and he said you was married. I wish you mutch joy. I wish to see you. John said all of the conection was well up there. Mother wishes to know where your Father is and how you all are. We have had some very cold weather here, the coldest that we ever had in this country. It has been snowing and raining for some time. There has been several deaths here lately, but Father's family is all in good health and has been for the last year. You said in your letter that when Cousin Robert came home from California you was going to pay us a visit. Now you are married you might come without any trouble. Martha I heard that you was married and I did not know where or how to direct a letter to you and I will direct it to Cousin Mary and she can send it to you. Aunt Emeline and Lowery are still a part and Aunt Emeline is living on her farm and is doing very well. Sister Mary is married and has two of the smartest children in this world and prettiest. She married a man by the name of Washington Turner. He lives 12 miles from us. Sis named the girl Laura Ann and the boy John for Father. He is a fine boy. The girl is here now staying a week or two with us. She is three years old. Cousin Martha if you will come up next fall I will give you a supper and show you who I have chosen for life.
