Good afternoon and thanks for coming out,
A lot of people say that we gather here each week to have a party and get high on Pot...
those of you that have been here know that is simply not true. We do that after the protest...
We are here because the Constitution is supposed to guarantee us us certain inalienable rights amoung them life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The Pursuit of Happiness...
Isn't that what smoking pot is really about, whether it be for medicine or recreational reasons?
We come here each week to protest the marijuana prohibition laws in this country.
We come here because Marijuana had 37 medical uses when banned in 1937 some of which have not been replaced, dozens more have been discovered in recent years.
We meet here because Hemp is a durable long lasting fiber that Was and still could be very useful to the textile industry,
We stand here because Hemp seed is a strategic food source,
because hemp seed can be processed for oil, which can be used for cooking or fuel
and because the stalks, roots and bulk make a great source of bio mass

We protest here each week because the federal governments drug policies just don't make sense
Which brings us to the smoking part. Most everyone knows that smoking anything is inherently bad for the lungs. But to be fair lets realize that people have been known to smoke tobacco banana peals, corn silk, toothpaste, clover, ginseng, jasmine, sage and dozens of other plants for centuries. Not to mention the six hundred different additives placed in cigarettes.
It is now known that tobacco is among the worst of these.
And you would be surprised the real reason why...
Yet has growing corn, tobacco or bananas been outlawed? No,
Why? I don't know...
Take note you tobbaco addicts 30 years ago you could walk down the street and smoke pot without hardly a worry about what the "man" would do. People regularly sat on the wall right here on College avenue and smoked marijuana.
Right now they are banning smoking cigarettes in some open places...

Professor Heicken has sat and smoked each week, Because he believes in Freedom
He says people have the right to decide for themselves, what to do with their bodies as long as they take responsibility for their actions. This includes deciding to shave or not to shave to be tattooed or not, what to eat, what to drink, what to smoke and even when to die
this I also believe that is why I am here every week to support freedom of choice

Julian has set up a week ritual or ceremony for us here, so that we would learn a lesson,
That lesson is that if we don't like the laws they will not change unless we do something.
We would like you to take that message with you, share it with all who will listen, tell your politicians that we just won't take it anymore.
The truth is that everytime you smoke whether it be noon on thursdays or at 4:20 you are protesting those laws and those who get caught are political prisioners and martyrs. There is a document, which I wrote on the table here... It is compromise with the moral right which would allow us to grow and use hemp legally for the first time in over 60 years. Each week Julian smokes and we all watch, Well Julian is not here today., it's about time we all smoked. Now is the time to practice your right to consume by flame... be it pot or tobacco or clover lets all light up for freedom and show our support for what is being done here for your future
