 Saturday Night LIVE!

A Surprising Look at 'good friday' as contrasted with the True Three Days AND THREE NIGHTS the Lord Jesus was in the heart of the earth; as revealed by The Bible.

Response to a Curious Questioner--
Re: 3 Days & 3 Nights (WS17Mar98)

>>RC> re: THREE DAYS -AND- THREE NIGHTS (part 1 of 3)
>>RC> Sunset is about 6 pm Roman time, but it is the END of the Jewish Day. That day being WEDNESDAY the 4th day of the week. The Bible 5th day of the week was at hand, and Joseph went to Pilate-- "When the even was COME". They had to hurry! The sun was going down fast! The lower edge of the disk touches the horizon, and if you've ever seen a sunset, you know it's not long before the upper edge vanishes.

>CQ> Dear Rich,
>CQ> I agree with you that Jesus died on Wednesday, 14 Nisan, was buried in the late afternoon/evening that day, then lay in the grave for 72 hours (3 days and 3 nights) and was raised on Saturday, 17 Nisan, same time of day he had been buried three days before. I also appreciate very much some of the various details you are including in your study.
Thanks, The message you replied to was excerpted from a larger message covering more details than the 3 days issue. Let me include some additional scripture quotes and comments here, before addressing the rest of your reply:

"Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;" (Mt.27:50,51)

Of course, what he shouted was: IT IS FINISHED! The Author and Finisher of our faith OPENED the way to the holy of holies. The new testament went into effect with the -death- of the Testator.

>>RC> And the ACTION STARTS! Saturday Night in Jerusalem!
>>RC> (The original "Saturday Night Live!" :)

>>RC> "And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves -after- his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many."! (Matt.27:52,53) Oh yeah Man! Saturday night LIVE!! "MANY"!!
>CQ> But I have severe problems with the section in Mt 27:52,53, because it doesn't seem to flow at all with the rest of scripture about the dead and their resurrection or raising from the dead.
Plainly, Matthew jumped ahead of the story to gather TOGETHER several related events. The old testament saints were awaiting their "finished" redemption. The new testament went into effect when the LORD died. Therefore, the old testament was no longer binding on the saints which slept. Mary's sister Martha, (who didn't sit at Jesus' feet learning the word of God,) was under the false assumption that the resurrection at the last day was the only resurrection. She realized her error when she saw her brother Lazarus HOPPING out of the sepulchre! (Yeah! He was BOUND hand and foot with graveclothes! :)
>CQ> They could not have been raised from the dead in the same sense that Jesus was, i.e. with a glorified body and a new life never more to die, because 1Co 15 talks about an order in resurrection which is (a) Christ the firstfruits (that wouldn't be a problem here in Mt. 27), then (b) the others who are Christ's, and that is to happen *at his coming* (which would be a problem because his coming in the sense of 1Co 15 hadn't happened yet).
The word "firstfruits" is PLURAL. As we said: MANY!!!!!!!

It was "after" Jesus' resurrection that the saints appeared.
>CQ> If they were raised from the dead in the same sense as the young man near Nain, or as Lazarus, then that would be a possibility, in which case they would have died afterwards again -- only then the point of emphasis for having this statement in Mt 27:52.53 seems to be lost.
Died afterwards? There is NOT one case in the Bible of anyone that was raised FROM the dead EVER dying again. The "second death", the lake of fire, is reserved for unbelievers. ("And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" :)
>CQ> There are quite a number of Gr. manuscripts which omit this part from Mt 27:52.53 about the dead rising in Jerusalem, and I think - many things considered - it was a later addition by some scribe in the process of copying who wanted to emphasize something which needs no further emphasis at all!
No, the deletion of verses by unbelieving scribes just shows their lack of faith in the word of God; and what you "think" about these things says something about your own faith, (or lack thereof? :)

"Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead." (Isa.26:19)

MANY saints arose -with- the LORD of glory! (Saturday night LIVE! :)

(And bless the Lord, O my soul, they were SINGING! :)
>CQ> Omitting these words, doesn't change the great truths that Jesus died on Wednesday and was in the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights and was raised on Saturday. The Scriptures are true!
>>RC> Remember that Jesus is the Lord and receive the love of the truth!
>>RC> Scripture quotes from the pure word of God, Author's Version AV1611
>CQ> Richard, I may not agree about the KJV 1611 being the "pure word of God", but consider it a translation done in the fear of the Lord and with endeavours to show oneself approved unto God as a good workman. However, as you have demonstrated, one can certainly get to the truth of what the pure originally given Word of God said by diligently studying the Scriptures and by carefully investigating and interpreting them in light of Scripture, i.e. let Scripture "speak on its own behalf".
The AV1611 is the only Bible with the power by the Holy Ghost to say that Jesus is the Lord! In the the pure word of God, every jot, tittle, and verse is essential to the whole. Why do you Personify the spoken or written word of God, by using UPPER-case "Word" and "Scriptures", when the word of God always uses lower-case "w" except when referring to the PERSON of Jesus himself as the "Word"? The LORD magnifies his "word" above all his name! [Psm.138:2] The words of the LORD -are- pure words indeed! (Let no man deceive you other wise. :)

Remember that Jesus is the Lord and receive the love of the truth. Grace be with your heart, in love for Jesus' sake. Amen. --Richard
