Wine vs. pure Grape Juice
Wine\96Jan18:01:00.FAQ - reply to a Curious Questioner-- re: "good" in John 2:10The word "good" (Grk.Kalos/Kalon) is contrasted with the word "corrupt" (Grk.Sapros/Sapron) by the Lord Jesus: "For a -good- tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a -corrupt- tree bring forth good fruit." (Lk.6:43) Some of the senses of "kalon"-- 1=beautiful, 2=honest, 3=virtuous, 4=good, 5=worthy, etc. (Please see following messages concerning the Cana wine. :) >CQ> When Christ was offered "bad" wine on his death march, He spit it out. When he arrived at Golgotha, he was given "VINEGAR... mingled with GALL"; he tasted it, and refused it. (ref.Mt.27:34) They also offered him "WINE mingled with MYRRH" which he refused, apparently without tasting it. (ref.Mk.15:23) He refused the pain-lessening drugs for -our- sakes. He took our pain, our sickness upon him, he was crucified for our sins, and by his stripes we are healed. He had to receive -all- the SUFFERING. Later on, sometime before noon, some soldiers MOCKED him and offered him vinegar, but his hour was not yet come. (ref.Lk.23:36) After the three hours of darkness, about 3pm, after -our- SINS were laid on him, he cried out, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?" A certain man filled a spunge with vinegar, put the spunge on a REED to give to Jesus, but others said, "Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him." (ref.Mt.27:48,49) Again, we don't see Jesus receiving it, since the symbol of the reed was connected with mockery; AS when the soldiers put a scarlet robe on him, a crown of thorns on his head, and a reed in his RIGHT hand, and then took that reed and smote him on the head. (ref.Mt.27:28-30) But Jesus on the cross spoke further and said, "I thirst." And then "they" filled a spunge (the CUP!) with vinegar and put in -upon- HYSSOP and gave him to drink, and finally, Jesus "therefore -received- the vinegar," and with a loud voice, he said, "IT IS FINISHED"!!! (ref.Jn.19:28-30) And he bowed his head and said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit" and Jesus gave up the ghost, dying for our sakes. (ref.Lk.23:46) The CUP (spunge) that the Father gave him to drink was the final cup upon the HYSSOP! And then, dear gentle reader, our sins were not only -upon- him, but he bare our sins -in- his own body on the tree! He refused the cups of devils, but received the Father's cup, the juice of the sour grapes of wrath, SQUEEZED into his mouth. The Lord Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world. He rose from the dead for our justification through faith in his blood. (Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!) (See following messages before considering any reply. Thanks. --Richard :)
