Judas and Simon Peter

 Judas and Simon Peter

"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve." (John 6:66-71 - Author's Version 1611AV)

Reprint of a reply, re: Judas, by Richard Clark to a Curious Questioner--

>CQ> Read your message and got curious. you may want to take a look at john 6:71, mark 3:18 and luke 6:12-6:16. if i read these right it looks like Judas was the son of Simon the Zealot.

• The ONLY "Simon" clearly identified ANYWHERE in John's gospel, is Simon Peter, so it is very reasonable to assume that the "son of Simon" mentioned by John, was the son of Simon called Peter:

• John 6:67 - Jesus speaking to the twelve.
• John 6:68 - Simon Peter speaking to the Lord.
• John 6:69 - Simon Peter calling Christ the Son of the living God.
• John 6:70 - The Lord Jesus calling Judas "a devil."
• John 6:71 - John calling Judas Iscariot "the son of Simon.

• The SIMON in the context is obviously Simon Peter. Simon Peter was married. Simon also had another son, called "Marcus." (1Pet.5:13p)

• John 13:21 - Jesus tells the twelve, "one of you shall betray me."
• John 13:22 - The disciples did not know of whom he spoke.
• John 13:23 - John indicates his undoubting closeness to Jesus.
• John 13:24 - Simon Peter asks John of whom Jesus spake.
• John 13:25 - John asks the Lord who it is.
• John 13:26a - Jesus indicates he to whom is given a sop.
• John 13:26b - John calls Judas "the son of Simon."

• Again, the SIMON in the context is Simon Peter. There's no doubt.

• Judas is "a devil." (John 6:70p) His physical father was "Simon." His spiritual father is Satan. Simon Peter was called "Satan."(Mt.16:23p) All these things are easy to understand for anyone who is not blinded by the devil. Judas, the son of perdition, is the antichrist.

"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2Thes.2:9-12)

• The word of faith says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved; For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: IN whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe NOT, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Remember that Jesus is the Lord and be wise to receive the love of the truth. Grace be unto your heart in mercy for Jesus' sake. Amen. --Richard
