DID JESUS PAY TAXES?
This article from a discussion forum answers this,
as well as whether or not churches should be tax exempt.
(May the Lord himself show you the truth of these things. Amen. :)

>>CQ1> Question... Why did the Christian and Jewish Churchs incorporate ? Where did it say in the Bible to do this... Get rid of your tax exempt status...or you will be forced by law someday to behave like the state. BTW: Romans chapter 13 didn't mean to do this...either.
"For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same." (Rom.13:3)
>CQ2> Well you can't tax God it all belongs to Him. The problem with the states incorperation is that they have a problem with exempt and immune. God is immune from tax. Churches that represent God and its property should be immune.
Whether immune or not, the Lord Jesus thought it GOOD to pay the tax for conscience sake, although he was later accused of not doing so.
"And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?" Peter's answer was a very emphatic: "Yes." (!)
"And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free." (see also Psm.115:16)
Are not Christians STRANGERS & pilgrims in this present evil world? "Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for -me- and thee." (see Mt.17:24-27)
Obviously a part of the money the Lord provides for you, is to be given on -his- behalf! The ruler is called "the minister of God" in Romans 13:4, and even Abraham gave TITHES unto the King of Salem.
>CQ2> That is, the Land is God's not the state.
In the higher sense, the earth is the LORD's, as the maker of heaven and earth, but behold: "The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the earth hath he -given- to the children of men." (Psm.115:16)
>CQ2> Christians should stand up and work for this because it is becoming more and more unclear. Not exempt but immune. Will the state tax God?
Tax? YES! And the state also crucified the Lord of glory! Two things that are said to be certain in life are death and taxes. There is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. If your "church" is set up like a BUSINESS, to "buy or sell", (and you remember that Jesus is the Lord, and who it was that he drove out of his temple!), then you [should] not object to paying tribute money.
Grace be unto your heart in the love of the truth. Amen. --Richard
